South Africa Cycling Challenge for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

 Roderick writes:

I am a Radiographer, working at the Birmingham Woman’s Hospital.

Between 5-17 November 20, I will be joining around 60 people cycling across South Africa as part of Macmillan Cancer Relief South Africa Cycling Challenge. We will be cycling for 8 consecutive days, covering over 600km, from the stunning coastline, through the Klein Karoo open plains and onto the famous Cape of Good Hope

It promises to be an extremely testing physical challenge over difficult terrain, including off road tracks, and in hot and humid conditions. We will also be rough camping along the way, so we will be completely removed from the luxuries of western life. The event, and the months of preparation, will be tough but I am doing this in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief (reg charity no 261017).

Over 739 people in this country are diagnosed with cancer each and every day and there are currently one million people living with cancer in the UK. Macmillan Cancer Relief is working towards the day when everyone will have equal and ready access to the best information, treatment and care for cancer. The charity funds specialist Macmillan nurses and doctors, buildings for cancer treatment and care, and grants for patients in financial difficulties. These services help alleviate fear and make the lives of people with cancer and their families easier.

I have to raise a minimum of £2,700 to take part in the event, of which at least 64% will benefit Macmillan Cancer Relief. I hope to raise much more than this and hope that you will consider assisting me in my challenge, which I am aware is a very minor one compared with the challenge that cancer patients face each day.
