In June 2002, Sonographers Medical became the first UK Employment Agency
to reward those Sonographers & Vascular Technologists working through its Offices
with a Reporting Allowance.

Why Pay A Reporting Allowance ?

Through the tail end of 2001 and into 2002, there was a move throughout the UK, but particularly in the Midlands, to pay a Reporting Allowance to Sonographers. The value of this award with in the NHS Trusts varied from £1000 to £4000 depending on local pay bargaining.

Sonographers Medical fully supported this call for recognition of the reporting element of a Sonographers work and therefore decided to impose their own unilateral Reporting Allowance to all Sonographers on their books.

We consider that Vascular Technologists have equivalent Reporting responsibilities to Sonographers and therefore we do not differentiate between them.

How Much Is The Allowance Worth ?

The value of this Award is
£1.50 per hour.

Assuming a 35 hour working week, if a Sonographer worked for 50 weeks in a year,
this would add £2,625 to their Annual Salary.

We sincerely hope that all other Agencies in the UK follow our example
and reward their staff with a similar award in the very near future.
