ODP Registration

Should I be State Registered ?

There is mandatory State Registration for ODP's in the United Kingdom, currently provided through the offices of the  Health Professions Council  (HPC). It is not possible to obtain work without their certification.

In addition, the National Health Service Executive has previously issued guidelines to all Trusts only to employ staff on the voluntary register held by the Association of Operating Department Practitioners. Whilst this register is no longer valid (now incorporated in to the HPC registration) some Trusts still prefer to see membership on your CV.

Registration with the association is reliant upon possessing a suitable qualification, currently this is a Diploma in Operating Department Practice or equivalent.

Sonographers Medical fully support the idea of State Registration for ODP's, as in all Healthcare professionals.
